Education for Alienation.
Hickerson, Nathaniel
The theme of this book is that American public education reflects the social order. The public schools do not initiate social change but mirror the social and political framework of the society. The result has been a waste of talent and ability and a loss of dignity and self worth for millions of citizens. Within the context of this analysis, the volume discusses intelligence tests as used in the public schools, formal and informal techniques of alienation, and the curriculum offered to the disadvantaged. Some proposals for reform are presented in the final chapter. (NH)
