A Survey of the Teaching of Physics in Secondary Schools.

This report, one of eight in different subject areas, gives the findings of a questionnaire survey designed to investigate what students remember of their course work in physics. Physics education is described in terms of topics studied, textbooks used, laboratory experiments done, time spent in physics, and the amount of physics, other sciences, and mathematics studied. Presented are comparisons for various geographical areas of the United States, for Public, Roman Catholic, and Independent Schools, and for Physical Science Study Committee (PSSC) and non-PSSC courses. A comprehensive description of the characteristics of the students surveyed is given. (GR)
