Sources for the Study of East African Cultures and Development; A Bibliography of Social Scientific Bibliographies, Abstracts, Reference Works, Catalogues, Directories, Writings on Archives, Bibliographies, Book Production, Libraries, and Museums, With Special Reference to Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda 1946-1966 (1967-1968).
Molnos, Angela, Comp.
The East African Research Information Centre (EARIC), sponsored by the East African Academy and financed by the Ford Foundation, is a new institution intended to promote efficient information exchange within the field of the social sciences and development. Its immediate objectives are to collect, collate and disseminate information on past and current research in the social sciences with special reference to East Africa. The present list is a considerably enlarged version of the Bibliography No. 4 of the "Africa-Studien 5" (Ifo-Institute for Economic Research, Munich, 1965). The data have been collected since 1964 continuously, by scanning current and non-current bibliographies. An attempt has been made to present a list of bibliographies and reference works so complete that the user would be enabled to find any primary source for the study of East African cultures and development at least within the period 1946-1966, and to some extent 1967-1968. Although this is intended to be a comprehensive list of sources for Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, a selection of bibliographies on neighboring countries is also listed because these contain social anthropological sources on ethnic groups living in the three major countries. It is estimated that the 796 titles listed cover 80 to 85 percent of all bibliographies relevant to this area. An address list is appended to help the user obtain items in this bibliography. (JD)
