An Outline of a Community Survey for Program Planning in Adult Education.
Hand, Samuel E.
The outline to conducting a community survey delineates the kinds of information and data about a community of significance to the adult educator--the history and community setting, the people, economic structure, and functional operations. Each topic is subdivided into what to study, sources of information, and implications for adult educators. Reasons for the necessity of such studies are discussed and include: the degree of participation in, and support of, local programs is proportionate to their relevance to real life; adult education should be a primary medium for a citizens' intellectual growth and participation in organized community life; and systematic study of the community enables a greater understanding of social problems and ability in dealing with them.
