Interdisciplinary Workshop for Special Education and Vocational Education Teachers. Final Report.

The purposes of the workshop were (1) to provide a means by which professionally trained educators in special education and vocational education chould work as a team in designing local school programs for educable mentally retarded students, (2) to create favorable attitudes in special education and vocational education teachers toward combined educational services for educable mentally retarded students, and (3) to develop guidelines and materials that could be used in organizing and implementing combined programs. The general content of the sections conducted by the specialists in mental retardation included general home and environmental background, learning characteristics, adjustment and behavior, physical and motor abilities, general education achievement, and vocational and community adjustment. The vocational education specialists discussed such topics as the objectives of vocational education, distributive education, content areas, selection of students, skills taught and knowledges required, and expected outcomes.
