The guide utilizes systematic teaching of basic skills, the unit approach to apply skills and concepts from several subject areas to a common topic, and the incidental application of learned skills to current experiences. Emphasis is on the sequential development of concepts related to daily living. Material includes seven major topics: self, family, neighborhood, school, community, state, and nation and world. Each topic appears at four developmental levels with emphasis on subject matter appropriate for the particular developmental level.
