Special Training Institute on Problems of School Desegregation. Final Report.

The major objective of this training institute was "to help critique the student teachers from the Houston, Texas, area develop knowledge and understanding of desegregation and its relationship to the teacher-learning situation in elementary and secondary schools". A further objective was to provide a cadre of new professional teachers coming into the school system prepared to deal with problems that arise as a result of total desegregation." Participants in this inservice program were 60 teachers, 40 critique teachers, 20 student teachers, and a group of children from poverty areas in Houston whom provided the "laboratory experience" for this one-year effort.
