Noted in the summary are major trends which the literature indicates, such as (1) the adoption by language educators of the audiolingual skills as a central linguistic objective, (2) improved liaison between high-school and university foreign language departments, (3) increased interest in area studies, and, most significant, (4) greatly increased interest in FLES. A bibliography of 89 items is included. (DS)
