This language arts teaching guide, designed to improve the communication skills of elementary school children and graded according to primary and intermediate levels, is divided into five sections: (1) "Listening" prescribes ways to encourage mature, critical listening and observing, (2) "Oral Expression" proposes means of developing both articulation and personality, (3) "Written Expression" deals with techniques which will facilitate either the creative or expository expression of children, (4) "Handwriting" suggests specific aids for teaching children to write legibly, and (5) "Reading" presents guidelines for a sound reading program and lists basal books to be used at grade levels 1-6. Each section also contains an introduction analyzing the importance of the particular skill to the personal, social, and intellectual growth of children; a number of line-drawings illustrating specific teaching techniques; and a subject bibliography.
