Abstract:
This document contains an introduction to the Ohio Integrated Technical and Academic Competency (ITAC) and Specialization ITAC; an overview of the drafting industry; a list acknowledging professionals who helped develop the competency list; and the comprehensive list of the professional or occupational competencies deemed essential for graduates to be able to perform proficiently when they graduate from an Ohio specialization workforce development program on drafting. The introduction explains the following: (1) critical academic, employability, and information technology skills have been integrated throughout the list to support the technical skills; (2) the competency profile can be used as the basis for curriculum development in Ohio's secondary, adult, and postsecondary programs; and (3) the specialization competency profile is organized so that it can be clustered or grouped in a modular approach. The overview of the drafting industry describes general duties, some specific tasks, employment opportunities, length of program, type of program (classroom instruction and/or work experience), and types of certificates and/or degrees. The competencies are grouped under broader skills that are, in turn, categorized under these 11 major topics: orientation to the drafting industry; safety in the drafting industry; basic drafting lab skills; geometric constructions; orthographic projections; pictorials; development drawings; dimensioning techniques; machine drawings; residential architecture; and electrical and electronic drawings. Abstract:
This document, which is intended as a guide for work force preparation program providers, details the Illinois occupational skill standards for programs preparing students for employment in occupations in the mechanical drafting cluster. The document begins with a brief overview of the Illinois perspective on occupational skill standards and credentialing, the process used to develop the skill standards, and assumptions underlying the standards. Presented next are skill standards for 23 tasks typically performed by workers involved in mechanical drafting. Each skill standard statement contains the following components: (1) the actual skill standard (including the conditions of performance, work to be performed, and performance criteria); (2) performance elements and assessment criteria; and (3) a recommended assessment and credentialing approach. The following are among the tasks for which skill standards are provided: measure using scales; draw geometric constructions; reference information from available sources; create a computer-aided drafting (CAD) model; and analyze CAD models. The following items are appended: glossary; list of Illinois Occupational Skill Standards and Credentialing Council members; list of Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics Subcouncil members; list of Mechanical Drafting Cluster Standards Development Committee members; Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics Subcouncil Mechanical Drafting Cluster skill standards recognition proposal; and list of necessary workplace skills. Abstract:
This training guide, developed during a project to retrain defense industry workers at risk of job loss or dislocation because of conversion of the defense industry, is designed for a course in blueprint reading for welders. The following are among the topics covered in the course: information on a blueprint; orthographic projection; views in orthographic drawings; representing an object; sketching an isometric drawing; surface identification; basic lines and their identification; local and general notes; title blocks; dimensions; dimension units; rules for dimensioning; tolerance dimensions; welding symbols; reference lines; basic weld symbols; types of welds; supplementary symbols; welding symbol and elements; fillet welds and finishes; and groove, plug, slot, spot, seam, and flange welds. Included in the guide are the following: course outline; transparency masters; student handouts; quiz; student exercises; and reference tables. (MN)

Abstract:
This packet of technology learning activity (TLA) materials for drafting for students in grades 6-10 consists of an instructor's section and student materials. The instructor's section contains background information, suggested activities, and a list of suggested resources. A lesson plan for the 8-day module includes assignments; equipment, tools, and supplies list; and facilities requirements/modifications. The following forms are provided: summary worksheet, pretest, posttest, test answers, and evaluation summary. A bibliography concludes the instructor's section. Topics are as follows: Cartesian Coordinate System, orthographic drawings, using drafting board and tools, and career search. The student section provides materials for each of the 8 days. The materials for the first day consist of the following: a summary of activities; list of all assignments in the TLA; goal; vocabulary with definitions; list of expected learner outcomes; list of objectives; list of related Technology Student Association competitive events; and academic and workplace applications reinforced by specific activities in this TLA. Materials for each of the other days may include some or all of the following: summary of activities; information sheet(s); objective with related introductory information; list of tools and materials; and procedure.
