Abstract:	Aberrant behavior is viewed from a pragmatic (communicative function) approach, and three types of pragmatically oriented interventions are discussed: (1) teaching alternative communicative behavior, (2) teaching other functionally related alternative responses, and (3) manipulating antecedent conditions. An assessment strategy for forming hypotheses regarding communicative functions of various behaviors is suggested. (CL)
