| Abstract: | This volume provides documentation on the origin of the women's rights movement placing the documents in a context that aims to show the rationale that blocked women from achieving full equality. The volume contains 127 fully annotated documents presented in chronological order (with a few exceptions) beginning in 1632 with colonial laws regarding women and ending in 1972 when the Equal Rights Amendment written by Alice Paul was reintroduced. The volume is divided into three time periods: Part 1 "Prologue to Seneca Falls"; Part 2 "Seneca Falls: Demand for Women's Suffrage"; and Part 3 "Winning the Vote." It can help teachers integrate women and their history into the Colonial Period, Slavery, the Civil War, World War I, and World War II. Numerous student activities and supplementary worksheets are included throughout the volume. (BT) |
