Abstract:A study investigated whether a correlation exists between the degree and nature of left-brain laterality and specific reading and spelling difficulties. Subjects, 50 normal readers and 50 reading disabled persons native to the island of Bornholm, had their auditory laterality screened using pure-tone audiometry and dichotic listening. Results indicated the existence of a significant correlation between the degree and nature of left-sided laterality and reading/spelling difficulties. Results also indicated that auditory laterality for men with reading and spelling difficulties differs from auditory laterality for women with reading and spelling difficulties. (RS)
