ERIC Collection Statistics

In 1966 ERIC indexed 1,308 documents in the first two months of operation, 93 of which were made available to the public in full-text on microfiche. ERIC began indexing journal articles, without full-text access, in 1969. Now ERIC indexes more than 3,600 items every month – many with full-text availability. The following statistics provide insight into the current composition of the ERIC Collection.

ERIC has indexed:

  • 918,931 journal articles
  • 514,302 non-journal materials (grey literature, published reports, and books)
  • 1,433,233 total records

Non-journal materials come from:

  • 111 federal agencies
  • 732 associations, organizations, state or local agencies, centers, and programs
  • 77 book publishers
  • Thousands of individuals contributing their work to ERIC

ERIC currently indexes 1167 journals:

  • 1064 comprehensive coverage (i.e., all articles)
  • 103 selective coverage

ERIC provides full text for 341,857 records, including materials from:

  • 672 non-journal sources
  • 106 journals
  • 6,179 online submissions
  • The ERIC microfiche collection (1966-2004) - 301,589
