The Aging Workforce: Implications for Rehabilitation. A Report of the Mary E. Switzer Memorial Seminar (11th, Washington, D.C., October 7-9, 1986).
Perlman, Leonard G., Ed.; Austin, Gary F., Ed.
This monograph contains papers from the Switzer Seminar on issues regarding the problems of aging, disabilities, and rehabilitation. It is intended for use by rehabilitation counselors, psychologists, gerontologists, researchers, administrators, consumers, legislators, and others interested in providing better services to Americans growing older. Five action papers are provided as chapters. They are "The State of the Art--An Overview of the World of Work" (Bernard Nash); "The Aging Work Force and the Politics of Incapacity" (Kenneth Mitchell); "Challenges for the Older Worker in the Rehabilitation Process" (Jane Myers); "Aging and Employment: Guides for the Rehabilitation Counselor and Employer" (S. Mae Smith); and "Options for Equality of Services for the Older Worker with a Disability" (Ellen Sax, Neal Baumann). Each chapter, where appropriate, includes excerpts of reviews and comments about the chapter and a summary of recommendations for action in the areas of policy and program development, service delivery, research, training, and legislation. Two special invited papers are found immediately following the chapters: "The Need for Rehabilitation Services among Older Workers" (Edward Hester) and "Age Bias--A 'New Wrinkle' for Rehabilitation" (William Powaser).
