Solving L-L Extraction Problems with Excel Spreadsheet
Teppaitoon, Wittaya
Chemical Engineering Education, v50 n3 p169-174 Sum 2016
This work aims to demonstrate the use of Excel spreadsheets for solving L-L extraction problems. The key to solving the problems successfully is to be able to determine a tie line on the ternary diagram where the calculation must be carried out. This enables the reader to analyze the extraction process starting with a simple operation, the single-stage extraction followed by the multistage countercurrent. With stage-to-stage calculation, a rigorous method of computing alternately between a phase equilibrium relationship and an operating line equation, the number of stages can be determined. A proper layout of the worksheet permits the use of "copy and paste" to extend the calculation to any N stages desired.
