Childhood bullying is a phenomenon that affects many individuals well beyond their childhood. This study looked specifically at female adults, and how the bullying they experienced in their childhood continues to have long-term effects on them in their adult lives. The purpose of this study was to explore the long-term effects that bullying has on the lives of adult females in relation to how it has affected the way they perceive themselves and how it has affected the relationships they have with other women as a result of bullying that they experienced in their childhood. This phenomenological study focused on the long-term effects that childhood bullying had on five women who represent five different age groups. These participants included a 22-year-old instructional assistant in an autistic support kindergarten class, a 34-year-old married nurse, a 39-year-old married reading specialist, a 48-year-old divorced mother of three, and a 61-year-old divorced elementary school teacher. Through the use if semi-structured interviews, the participants were given an opportunity to tell their stories in their own words with minimal interruption from the researcher. Common themes emerged from the stories that these five participants shared about their experiences with childhood bullying, including similarities in how their self-esteem, personal success, and personal relationships have been affected by their experiences. The results show a direct correlation between their childhood bullying experiences and their perception of themselves and their relationships with other women.
