This manual was prepared to provide union leaders, organizers, and local officers with information about the experiences of Asian-American, Black, Hispanic-American, female, and part-time workers. The Asian-American workers section includes information on Chinese, Japanese, Filipinos, Koreans, Asian-Indians, Southeast Asians, and Pacific Islanders and includes discussions of populations, locations, labor force participation, employment statistics, and specific issues. The Black workers section includes information on population, income, poverty, labor force participation, families, women, education, the future of work, unions, and politics. The Hispanic workers section includes information on population, income, poverty, unemployment, labor force participation, occupations, unions, and how business targets Hispanics. The section on women workers includes information on the "pink collar ghetto," minority women, pay equity, child care and parental leave, health and safety, part-time workers, flexible scheduling, insurance and pensions, sexual harassment, and women in unions. The part-time workers section includes information on the makeup of the disposable workforce, part-time workers, temporary workers, and compensation and benefits. All of the sections, except the one on part-time workers, include appendices listing a variety of resources such as research centers, films, publications, and organizations. (CML)
