Who's Best for U.S. and Indian Country?: Students Weigh in on 2008 Presidential Race
Talahongva, Patty
Tribal College Journal of American Indian Higher Education, v20 n1 p34-37 Fall 2008
For the first time, the race to the White House included a woman and a man of African American heritage. U.S. Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama both campaigned intensely to claim the Democratic nomination. While this may strike many Americans as historic, for some students attending tribal colleges, the election is still just that, the election for president of the United States. In April, "Tribal College Journal" interviewed five tribal college and university students in leadership positions about the two Democratic contenders and about U.S. Senator John McCain, the Republican candidate. The students said they wanted to know what the candidates would do not just for the country but also for Indian Country. In this article, the author reports the opinions of the students about the 2008 presidential election.
