Final Report of Project Curriculum Development: Pulsed Tig Welding, 1978-1979.

Designed to help unemployed and disadvantaged workers find new career opportunities, this curriculum provides vocational students with a basic course of instruction in pulsed tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding. The first of four sections provides a general background of welding, the welding industry, and welding processes. Section 2 focuses on establishing a pulsed TIG welding program. Specific components that are discussed include the need for vocational training, student education/experience background, visual aids, equipment, supplies, and safety. The third section provides the in-depth technical detail of the pulsed TIG welding process. Topics included are (1) technical details, (2) advantages of pulsing, (3) welding machines, (4) welding torches, (5) tungsten electrodes, (6) filler rods, (7) shielding gases, (8) gas flow rate, and (9) materials to be welded. The final section contains lesson plans for ten units of instruction. Each lesson plan is further divided into the lesson objective, equipment and materials needed, lecture/discussion topics, and procedures. Appended material includes a users guide for the Miller Syncrowave 300, welding career statistics, and a discussion of women in welding. (LRA)
