As part of a cooperative extension service series by the University of Maryland, this publication introduces the identification and control of common turf and plant pests that can be found in the urban environment. The first of the five sections defines "pest" and "weed" and generally introduces different kinds of pests such as insects, weeds, and diseases. Also in this section, the topic of pest controls is introduced. The second section is a tabular listing of "disease,""description and damage," and "control and management practices" for trees and shrubs, flowers and ground covers, and turf and lawn plants. The third section is a tabular listing of insect problems for the plant groups. The fourth section describes weeds and their control, and the fifth section is a collection of line drawings of common weeds to aid in their identification. One is referred to other publications in this series for specific pest control methods. (MR)
