Crafton, Linda K., Ed.; Johnson, Nancy J., Ed.
National Council of Teachers of English, School Talk v13 n3 Apr 2008
This issue of "School Talk" brings together the ideas of purposefulness and intertextuality together in a teaching practice called intentional intertextual inquiry. "Making Inquiry Intentional and Intertextual" (Karen Smith, Sarah Diaz, and Silvia Edgerton) discusses the framework that combines inquiry-based learning and intertextuality within intentional thinking both before introducing an inquiry-based theme to students and throughout the learning experience. Topics include: (1) What Is Inquiry?; (2) What Is Intertextuality?; (3) What Does It Mean to Be Intentional? (4) Encouraging an Inquiry Stance; (5) Creating Curriculum from Students' Response; (6) Preparing for Grand Conversations; and (7) Collecting and Examining Texts. A selection of Web resources and a resource bibliography are included.
