Teaching Activities for Defensive Living and Emergency Preparedness. Education Modules.
Peterson, Grit, Ed.; And Others
Designed for teaching a generalized program in emergency preparedness education, the eight units of the manual can be used together or alone in any course that teaches human response to emergency preparedness or in physical education, recreation, health, biology, physiology, or science classes. The guide includes an introduction and seven major sections: mental aspects of emergency preparedness, physiological aspects of survival, survival priorities, specific emergency situations (cold and warm weather emergencies, survival in water and immersion through ice, fire, earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides, volcanos, avalanches, floods, hurricanes, lightning, tornadoes, inner city survival, nuclear emergencies, and considerations for survival); general emergency techniques (survival first aid and hygiene, improvisation, clothing, shelter, firecraft, water and food procurement, navigation, and signaling); emergency preparedness kits, and the philosophy of teaching emergency preparedness. Each unit contains objectives, activities, a reference list, films, and other information. The guide book also discusses modern disciplines that relate to survival education, and occupations and safety oriented careers that need survival knowledge on a daily basis.
