The second volume of an annual series following the arrangement of the "MLA International Bibliography" includes sections on European, Asian, African, and Latin American literatures. The classified collection of 1,744 brief abstracts of journal articles on the modern languages and literatures to be used in conjunction with the annual "Bibliography" is provided in the three-volume set. Most items for which abstracts appear in this volume are indicated by an asterisk preceding the item number in the appropriate volume of the "1970 MLA International Bibliography". The MLA Abstracts System is intended to supplement the listings in the annual "Bibliography" and thus provide for the scholar and student additional access to current scholarship. As the abstracts volumes contain neither cross-references nor author indexes, it is essential that they be used in conjunction with the "Bibliography". A table of journal acronyms is included. (RL)
