These four quarterly newsletter issues address various topics of interest to teachers of young children. Each issue includes articles on a specific theme, along with regular columns. The Fall 2000 issue focuses on imbuing celebrations with meaning. One article describes how one Japanese preschool adapts concepts from the Waldorf education approach to create meaningful birthday rituals. A second article contains a reading list of appropriate books for young children with ideas for celebrations. The topic of the Winter 2000 issue is communication between schools and families, with one article detailing strategies for written communication with families of young children and a second article describing a "walking report card" devised as an alternative to traditional end-of-year conferences at a preschool. The Spring 2001 issue features articles that could help enrich learning activities for young children. One article describes how preservice teachers created science discovery centers for preschoolers as part of a methods class. A second article describes a pictorial contract system used with young children during center time to facilitate quality decisions. The Summer 2001 issue highlights transition between programs and presents one article addressing end-of-year celebrations and another providing a guide to planning field trips that include children with disabilities.
