Reclaiming Children and Youth, v22 n3 p28-31 Fall 2013
Routine life stressors can trigger anger and violence with children who have poor emotional regulation. This article describes "Response Ability Pathways" (RAP) strategies that equip youth in managing these daily challenges. The strategies require establishing steps to gain the young persons trust and providing alternative methods to violence. The steps include: (1) making contact with the youth; (2) gathering a timeline of an event that created a situation and then determining how to restore harmony; and (3) helping the youth discover how to maintain self-control rather than react to the problem. The article includes a program flyer.
