The document presents a guide for teaching insurance protection based on the needs of students in the South Pacific. It is presented as a unit of study within the area of consumer education. Suggestions for unit objectives, student activities, time allocation, teaching methods, and reference materials are offered. A lesson plan is outlined based on 10 subject areas and their corresponding materials as they are presented in the pupils' pamphlet and the teacher's guide. The 10 areas of study include: (1) introduction, (2) types of insurance, (3) principle of insurance, (4) the insurance contract, (5) motor vehicle insurance, (6) fire insurance, (7) burglary insurance, (8) householders/houseowners insurance, (9) life insurance, and (10) statistics. The lessons contain teaching procedures and suggestions for discussion and activities. One-third of the document consists of appended materials providing background information related to the fundamental principles of insurance and the different types of insurance. (EC)
