The Internet as Paradigm. 1997 Annual Review of the Institute for Information Studies.
Institute for Information Studies, Queenstown, MD.
Each year, the Institute for Information Studies publishes an Annual Review--a collection of commissioned papers that provide a variety of perspectives on a particular topic relating to the impact of communications and information technology. The articles in this 8th edition focus on the impact of the Internet not only on society and in society but as a paradigm for society. The authors offer a variety of visions of the Internet, it's promises and possibilities, and of society's future as a result of this potentially transformative influence. The following articles are included: (1) Introduction--"The Internet as Paradigm: Phenomenon and Paradox" (John Hindle); (2) "The Internet: An Abstraction in Chaos" (Anthony M. Rutkowski); (3) "Economic Issues Facing the Internet" (Hal R. Varian); (4) "The Internet Business and Policy Landscape" (Brian Kahin); (5) "Governance and the Internet" (Bruce W. McConnell; (6) "Is This for Real?" Democratic Politics and the Internet" (Michael Cornfield and F. Christopher Arterton); (7) "Learning in an Internetworked World" (Beverly Hunter); and (8) "The Internet as a Complex Evolving System" (James F. Moore). A brief profile of each author is provided.
