Health as a Life Value of Adolescents
Tsvetkova, I. V.
Russian Education and Society, v48 n8 p31-39 Aug 2006
This article is based on materials from a questionnaire survey of tenth-graders in the city of Toliatti [Togliatti], conducted by the monitoring division of the Resource Center of the Department of Education. A total of 958 adolescents in eighteen schools took part in the survey in March and April 2005. Nine schools served as "base" schools, which function on the basis of special programs that focus on students' physical education, while nine are conventional schools. This selection of respondents is justified by the main hypothesis of the survey, to study the influence of special educational programs in base schools on adolescents' value attitudes and way of life. The survey reveals that maintaining a healthy way of life depends on the personal choice of the young city dwellers and their ability to exercise self-control over their behavior and habits.
