Allen, Martin; Goodman, Harvey
This document is intended as a guide for both experienced and inexperienced teachers of Regents Biology in New York State. It presents a collection of demonstrations, activities, and strategies designed to enrich the teaching of that course. The guide includes seven units of study. Units are focused on unity and diversity among living things, maintenance in living things, human physiology, reproduction and development, genetics, evolution, and ecology. The format for each unit includes: (1) a unit theme, which provides an overall summary describing the rationale for the unit; (2) a topic theme, which highlights the key points to be found in each topic included in the unit; (3) teaching strategies, a personalized introspective device detailing suggested approaches for treating the subject matter; (4) instructional objectives, which are keyed to syllabus content and placed in sequential order; and (5) teaching activities, which include demonstrations, laboratory experiments, student projects, reports, and guest speakers. Also included are sections on laboratory skills and career information. (TW)
