Telephone Survey Designs.
Casady, Robert J.
The concepts, definitions, and notation that have evolved with the development of telephone survey design methodology are discussed and presented as a unified structure. This structure is then applied to some of the more well-known telephone survey designs and alternative designs are developed. The relative merits of the different survey designs are considered. The concepts discussed include the target population, the sampling frames, and the relationship between the frames and the target population. Basic notation is reviewed, and single-stage and two-stage designs are discussed, including the Mitofsky-Waksberg procedure proposed by W. Mitofsky in 1970 and later elaborated by J. Waksberg. The relative merits of the survey design strategies are reviewed from the point of view of cost. (SLD)
