Examines the African concept of "ubuntu", which indicates an inner state of almost complete humanization and is the essence of community and commonality. Discusses how ubuntu could contribute to multi-cultural education. Central to the concept of ubuntu, and much like the philosophy underlying multi-cultural education, is that caring for others is a fundamental approach to life in all its facets. (SM)
