This book provides information to prospective graduate students on how to acquire financial assistance for their graduate programs by explaining (1) what the difference is between undergraduate and graduate aid; (2) aid eligibility; (3) where to go for funding and how much is available; (4) how to be "marketable" to targeted funding sources; (5) what is the best package in loans, grants, and service-related awards; and (6) how and when to apply. The book's purpose is to answer the most frequently asked questions from students and those who advise them about funding sources at the graduate level. One entire chapter is devoted to special aid sources for such specific student groups as women, minorities, veterans, international students at U.S. graduate schools, and U.S. citizens studying abroad. In addition, information is supplied in the areas of financial planning, debt management, loan jargon, and preparation of aid applications. Appendices contain a list that provides general information on graduate financial support as well as lists giving information on financial support for minorities, women, study abroad, and international students.
