A Program of Technical Assistance to Industry in Twenty-Six Mississippi Counties and the Choctaw Indian Reservation. Final Report.
Phillips, Jane; Sewell, Charles
A broad technical assistance program has been established in 25 EDA (Economic Development Administration) contract counties and on the Choctaw Indian Reservation Nashoba County) to stimulate new job opportunities by solving operational problems which limit the expansion and diversification of existing industry; professional services in evaluating the feasibility of new business and industrial ventures; technical staff support in implementing changes; and assistance in removing problems that threaten the existence of marginal firms. Direct service management of manufacturing and marketing, general management, vendor development, retailing, and the tourist industry have been extended to existing firms. New ventures have received help on feasibility studies, equipment and manpower needs, preparation of detailed cost estimates, and other types of analysis projects. EDA representatives have had access to professional services in aiding special EDA projects in the areas served. During the 1968-69 contract year, 215 new EDA projects were begun; 24 others were carried over from the previous fiscal year. (LY)
