Reading. Intermediate Supplemental Exercises. Courses 701-803. Science. Revised.
Barnes, Martha; Rouse, June
This book is made up of six reading courses in the sciences, each of which is divided into several exercises. Each exercise has an objective and at least one reading selection. In most of the courses, the first objective is to acquaint the student with names and terms used in the subject being discussed. Exercises following the reading selection provide the opportunity to practice the skill presented in the objective. Types of exercises are short answer, matching, true/false, and multiple choice. Course 701 is an introduction to earth science, including air, water, weather, space, and geology. Courses 702, 703, 801, and 802 are about biology and include the study of plants (botany) and animals (zoology). General information about plants and animals is found in course 702, with the major emphasis being on plants. The focus in course 703 is on animals. Course 801 discusses human structures and functions. Course 802 addresses nutrition and a good daily diet for proper health and gives details about some body ailments and diseases. In course 803 the student is given an opportunity to practice drawing conclusions from reading selections about a variety of science-related topics. Information on test-taking techniques is also given. Reviews are found following courses 703 and 803. A pronunciation key and two glossaries are appended. (YLB)
