Mentoring Matters: A Room of One's Own--The Accidental Mentoring of a Traveling Teacher
Simmons, Amber M.
English Journal, v98 n3 p110-112 Jan 2009
One of the most exciting moments for early-career teachers is seeing their classroom for the first time. When the author accepted a position at her high school alma mater, she began planning the learning environment and atmosphere that she wanted to create for students. She was dismayed when she learned that she had to move to a different room each period. Here, the author describes how she made the best of her difficult situation. Her story illustrates the benefits of having a network of mentors to rely on. Mentors can contribute to teachers' understanding, awareness, and emotional and intellectual support.
