This directory provides information on summer programs abroad from 1 week to several months in length and short courses of varying lengths in the fall, winter, or spring. Approximately 60 percent of the programs are sponsored by U.S. accredited colleges and universities; the others are offered by foreign universities, language schools, and other organizations. Program entries are organized first by geographical region (Africa South of the Sahara, Asia and Oceania, Eastern Europe, Western Europe, the Middle East, and the Western Hemisphere). Each world region is subdivided alphabetically by country and then by city. For each program entry, the following information is provided: program sponsor and name, site, dates, subjects, eligibility, credit granted, instruction, costs, housing, deadline, and address to contact. An introductory article offers suggestions for planning a study abroad experience. Indexes are provided by sponsoring institutions, consortia, fields of study, special options, cost ranges, and program duration. (JDD)
