"Boys Don't Cry," a Movie Review: Implications for Counseling Persons Who Are Transgendered
Aguilar, Jinnelle Veronique
Journal of Creativity in Mental Health, v5 n4 p440-446 2010
People who fall under the umbrella of transgender belong to one of the most marginalized groups within society. Many who do not pass within the gender binary categories imposed by social norms experience discrimination and marginalization. In this article, the author discusses the film "Boys Don't Cry" and introduces the reader to the varieties of discrimination faced by people who are transgender, transsexual, gay, lesbian, or bisexual. Implications for using relational-cultural theory when counseling clients who fall under the transgender umbrella are also discussed.
