Corporate Parenting: A Discussion of the Educational Psychologist's Role
Bradbury, Suzanne
Educational Psychology in Practice, v22 n2 p141-158 Jun 2006
The role of the Corporate Parent was instigated by the Government in 1996 to safeguard children taken into the care of the local authority (CiPC). This small scale exploratory study interviewed three educational psychologists working in designated CiPC posts and asked about the nature and extent of their work and where they felt they were using their psychological knowledge and skills. The findings indicated considerable congruity across the three local authorities in terms of the nature of work being undertaken; with training, individual casework and attending meetings being prominent and the major differences being associated with seniority of the post holder and the variation in time allocated to this work. Although all three respondents thought this was a vital area of work for their Service, opinion varied about precisely where they were making a unique contribution as psychologists.
