Using AASL's "Health and Wellness" and "Crisis Toolkits"
Logan, Debra Kay
School Library Media Activities Monthly, v25 n10 p51-53 Jun 2009
Whether a school library program is the picture of good health in a state that mandates a professionally staffed library media center in every building or is suffering in a low-wealth district that is facing drastic cuts, the recently launched toolkits by the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) are stocked with useful strategies and resources. This article describes "The School Library Program Health and Wellness Toolkit" which is designed to help library media programs document and build awareness of their positive contributions, programs, and services (http://www.ala.org/ala/mgrps/divs/aasl/aaslproftools/toolkits/slmhealthandwellness.cfm) and "The AASL Crisis Toolkit" which provides a step-by-step plan for dealing with the kinds of crises that are occurring across the United States in library media centers (http://www.ala.org/ala/mgrps/divs/aasl/aaslproftools/toolkits/crisis.cfm).
