"Pointless to Try to Hide"
Chrostoski, Eric W. M.
School Administrator, v69 n10 p39-40 Nov 2012
Superintendents whose young children attend public schools in their school district face a special challenge. This article shares the author's experience as the son of a superintendent. Throughout his years in primary and secondary school, his mother, Jean Chrostoski, served as the superintendent of the schools he attended in the small Illinois communities of Germantown, Lawrenceville and Nokomis. With an educator parent, there were plenty of benefits--early reading experiences, exploration of creative activities at summer camps and regular attendance as a toddler at high school band rehearsals and performances. With a parent as the principal or superintendent, he always felt extra motivation to do well in school, behaviorally and scholastically. Also, he found it pointless to try to hide a misdemeanor or less-than-stellar grade from his mother. She often knew he was in trouble before he did.
