Developing Ethical Knowledge in the Spirit of Judaism

This study attempts to describe Jewish teachers' perceptions about their ethical dilemmas based on stories derived from the Bible. Sixty teachers were asked to submit descriptions of their ethical dilemmas to the study website; submissions were then discussed in focus groups. The findings were grouped by the ATLAS.ti into five categories: Telling the truth versus protecting from potential harm; egalitarian approach versus differential treatment; collective sanction versus personal sanction; fair process versus fair outcome and school standards versus family educational agenda. The findings may help to develop ethical knowledge in the spirit of Judaism in Jewish institutions. (Contains 1 figure.)
