Are Charter Schools Making a Difference? A Study of Student Outcomes in Eight States. Research Brief
Li, Jennifer
RAND Corporation
Charter schools do not generally draw the top students from other public schools. Their test-score gains are similar to those of traditional public schools, but they have higher rates of students graduating high school and attending college. [This research brief describes work done for RAND Education documented in Charter Schools in Eight States: Effects on Achievement, Attainment, Integration, and Competition, by Ron Zimmer, Brian Gill, Kevin Booker, Stephane Lavertu, Tim R. Sass, and John Witte, 2009. For full report, see ED504520]
