Indoor Air Quality Management Program.
Anne Arundel County Public Schools, Annapolis, MD.
In an effort to provide Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) management guidance, Anne Arundel County Public Schools was selected by the Maryland State Department of Education to develop a program that could be used by other school systems. A major goal was to produce a handbook that was "user friendly." Hence, its contents are a mix of history, philosophy, source reference, and "cook book" on how pollutants or thermal comfort affect the IAQ of schools. The guide is divided into nine sections dealing with the following topics: (1) communications and public relations; (2) historic review; (3) classifying indoor air quality problems; (4) planning and design; (5) leased buildings; (6) training, education, and information; (7) investigation of an indoor air quality problem; (8) building inspections; and (9) building maintenance and operation. Descriptions of 11 indoor air quality problems are appended: asbestos, tobacco products, radon, formaldehyde, volatile organic compounds (carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide), bio-aerosols, blood and body fluid spills, paint, design standards, and roofing. An information supplement is also appended. (SI)
