This document looks at various types of counseling approaches and includes sections on Rogerian counseling, Gestalt therapy, and rational emotive therapy. The section on Rogerian counseling includes a discussion of the principles of counseling from Rogers'"Client Centered Therapy." Gestalt therapy is explained in more detail and a synopsis is provided for individuals interested in training to be counselors. The section on rational emotive therapy lists 11 irrational ideas that may cause and sustain emotional disturbance. An illustration of multi-modal therapy techniques is included.
