Attended by 250 persons, the workshop was directed toward assessing participant outcomes of resident outdoor experiences, effectiveness of camping and environmental education programs, and leadership strategies related to quality outdoor experiences. Its keynote theme was "The Dynamics of Research". Focus was on the utilization of research and the techniques researchers and program staff and administrators use in the evaluation of camping and environmental education resident programs. Program format was designed to facilitate interaction between researchers and program operators for the purpose of sharing research findings, techniques, and problems. The program was organized according to five themes--environmental actions and understanding, social interactions, enhancement of individuals, leadership strategies, and operational programs of evaluation. Organized according to these five themes, this proceedings presents 26 manuscripts prepared by the speakers. A 330-item bibliography is included. Augmenting the references listed throughout the proceedings, the citations cover such topics as attitudes and values, peer relationships, cross-cultural and racial integration, self-concept, social adjustment, adventure activities, special population and normal people relationships, emotionally disturbed, mentally retarded, and counselor influences upon campers.
