Revolutions: Interdisciplinary Approaches to Teaching Printmaking and Latin American History
Kiddy, Elizabeth; Woodward, Kristen T.
History Teacher, v46 n2 p169-191 Feb 2013
As part of a U.S. Department of Education grant to expand Latin American and Caribbean Studies at Albright College, the authors of this article, one a historian and one an artist, teamed up to teach a course called Revolutions: Art and Revolution in Latin America. In the class, they proposed to combine a studio art printmaking class with Latin American history content. They wanted to use a different kind of technology to help students understand the past, and use Latin America's revolutionary past to help students understand the different ways that art has been used to promote social change. This article is going to talk about the methods that they use to teach the class, the resources available, and some of the challenges of offering this type of hybrid class. (Contains 5 figures and 34 notes.)
