The Impact Model
McClure, Patrick
Technology Teacher, v65 n7 p32-34 Apr 2006
According to the author, teachers must give their students the ability to assess past, present, and new technologies, while making them aware that there is always a price to pay for any new technology. Students need to acquire the ability to make critical decisions about the world they live in and the technologies that will impact their lives. In this article, the author describes his impact model of technology education, which will not only help the teacher in identifying areas to be considered, but also inspire students to think critically about how technology affects individuals, society, and the environment. The impact model is divided into five major sections: (1) the technology to be evaluated; (2) human assessment; (3) physical-psychological-spiritual assessment; (4) systems assessment; and (5) outcomes.
