Using Computer-Based Continuing Professional Education of Training Staff to Develop Small- and Medium-Sized Enterprises in Thailand
Sooraksa, Nanta
International Journal of Training and Development, v16 n3 p235-242 Sep 2012
This paper describes a career development program for staff involved in providing training for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Thailand. Most of these staff were professional vocational teachers in schools. The program uses information communication technology (ICT), and its main objective is to teach Moodle software as a tool for designing e-learning courses and to use the tool for developing effective online courses. The underlying purpose of the program was to equip training staff with e-learning skills to enable them to provide training for those involved in SMEs in Northeast Thailand. By doing so, it was hoped that economic development would be promoted within the SME sector and that lifelong learning would be embedded and career opportunities created, so sustaining that development. It was found that the training program was able to help the trainers learn to develop effective e-learning courses for local SMEs and experience of conducting this training suggests it could, if modified, benefit other developing countries.
