Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) at Your Library Media Center
Anderson, Cynthia
Library Media Connection, v25 n4 p22-24 Jan 2007
Together administration and the library media center form a team that can make a difference in student learning and, in turn, in student achievement. The library media center can contribute to improve student learning, and there is an amazingly small cost that administration must pay for this powerful support. This article addresses superintendents and principals about the importance of collaboration between administration and library media centers. The library media specialist (LMS) is the key person to incubate, foster, and cause collegiality and collaboration to thrive in schools. He or she sees one grade level or department, employing a particularly effective strategy that allows for improvement in student achievement. The LMS shares what he or she observed with a teacher from another grade level or department, and the students benefit. With collaboration, staff can take positive action to improve the skills of all students.
